Independent Journalist • Photographer
Correspondent, Trains Magazine
As a correspondent for Trains Magazine and News Wire, I primarily cover public transit, commuter rail and transportation technology. I also report on transit and infrastructure politics, both in Washington and on major issues at the local and state level.
As an environmental journalist, I have written for Sierra Magazine, Hakai Magazine, CityLab, DeSmog, Mongabay, and other publications.
My writing career began as a business journalist for the Ward's family of automotive industry publications, reporting on manufacturers and suppliers as well as consumer, marketing and government issues. My byline has also appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Newsday and Changing Times magazine (now Kiplinger's Personal Finance).
I often contribute photography to accompany my stories, and my fine art photography has been exhibited in galleries and juried shows in Los Angeles, Maine and elsewhere.
My career also includes corporate communications, where I led pubic relations accounts for major international brands, and co-ownership of a successful Los Angeles-based video production company with brand-name clients.
I am a member of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ); Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE) and Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ).
